A BIT ABOUT US

Elgin Construction Company Limited is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2024, and has been working with municipalities and private developers to improve South Western Ontario’s infrastructure and build new communities since 1944.  We are proud to be one of the oldest established heavy construction companies in our area.  We are proud and grateful that 32% of our staff has been with us for over 15 years, many with over 20 years of service.  Our employees have a wealth of experience that gives us the ability to work effectively through many different and challenging projects.

Arturo (Art) Nicli started a construction company with a small office in St. Thomas, Ontario, moving to the area after immigrating from Mijano, Italy in the 1920s.  In the early 1940s Elgin Construction was established.  Art was well known, in the area, supporting and sponsoring many a young man, who also wanted to immigrate to Canada, with a job already in place.   Art’s wife Beulah also worked in the company beside Art managing the office and administration.  Their two sons, Robert (Bob) and James joined the company in their teens helping to grow and expand the business and service offering.

We would be remiss if we didn’t pay tribute to Elgin’s leader, Bob Nicli. He was instrumental in leading our company from the early 1990s until his unfortunate death in 2019.  The employees of Elgin Construction recognize and acknowledge the legacy left by both Art and Bob and endeavour to carry on their great contributions to the business and the industry at large.  Bob’s commitment to the company and the employees was evident every single day.  Bob was so passionate about the work we do.  Bob is remembered as a hard-working, honest advocate for the construction industry and Ontario Sewer and Watermain Construction Association (OSWCA).  A dedicated construction professional, Bob served on OSWCA’s Board of Directors from 1983 to 1992 and as president for two terms during 1984-85. He was committed to improved business conditions for the industry, as example, with the Ontario Provincial Standards Committee.

Bob’s daughter Anne-Marie Nicli and Brad DeCourcy have assumed the leadership of Elgin Construction, with the support of our dedicated employees.  Their goal remains to carry on the commitment to safety and quality workmanship started 80 years ago.
